While attacking Georgia governor candidate Stacey Abrams (D), Herschel Walker, who's running for a seat on the state's Senate, said there were 52 states in the U.S., instead of 50.
In another incident of misstatements by Walker, the Republican Senate candidate said in an interview on Tuesday (June 21) that there were two more U.S. states than the widely known number.
During Tuesday's interview, Walker slammed Abrams' comment that Georgia was the "worst" state to live in.
“I am tired of hearing about [Georgia] being the best state in the country to do business when we are the worst state in the country to live,” Abrams previously said citing Georgia's ongoing issues with incarceration rates, mental health treatment, maternal mortality, and wages.
Abrams said her statement was meant to highlight Governor Brian Kemp (R) as “a failed governor, who doesn’t care about the people of Georgia." However, Republicans have seized the opportunity to criticize the gubernatorial candidate for her remark.
Referring to Abrams' comment, Walker suggested the voting rights activist live in a different state since she has 51 others to choose from.
“If you don’t believe in the country, leave and go somewhere else,” he said on the "Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show." “If it’s the worst state, why are you here? Why don’t you leave ― go to another? There’s, what, 51 more other states that you can go to?”
Spokeswoman Mallory Blount told HuffPost, “Herschel misspoke ― he obviously knows there are 50 states."
However, the former NFL star's campaign has been filled with alleged false claims and controversies.
After the Uvalde mass shooting at Robb Elementary School, Walker suggested that “a department that can look at young men that’s looking at women that’s looking at social media,” would help prevent future instances of gun violence.
The Daily Beast recently reported that Walker, a repeated critic of absentee fathers, had hidden from the public other children of his own that he doesn't communicate with. Following the bombshell report, Walker insisted that he had “never denied any of my [his] kids.”
