Top University of Southern California (USC) recruit Aaliyah Gayles is back on her feet just two months after she was shot 10 times at a house party, TMZ reports.

News of the recovery comes after Gayles, a high school basketball star, was shot in both arms and legs on April 16. The 18-year-old has begun walking again after two months of using a wheelchair following the Las Vegas shooting.

Gayles' father Dwight Gayles told TMZ that he's confident the high school basketball star will fully heal from the gunshot wounds.

"She's going to be just fine," he said. "This kid is built different."

According to TMZ, Gayles took to Instagram on Thursday (June 23) to share her first steps.

The five-star recruit posted a now-deleted video of her getting out of her wheelchair and walking again.

"They told me I couldn't do it," Gayles said in the caption, per TMZ. "I told them watch me do it."

"I got the whole world watching. I gotta prove it," she added.

Earlier this month, Gayles took the graduation stage and earned her diploma from Spring Valley High School.

The 5'9" point guard reigned as the number eight overall womens basketball player per ESPN's 2022 class. Gayles committed to the USC in August 2021, before the April shooting.

Police say they are still investigating the shooting, according to TMZ.
