Ballerina Misty Copeland has been taking time away from the stage to focus on her newborn.
Copeland, 39, revealed that she privately welcomed her first child, a baby boy named Jackson, three months ago with husband Olu Evans.
"I have a 3-month-old," Copeland told People in a recent interview.
The principal dancer, known to keep her personal life out of the public eye, said she plans to continue to protect her son's privacy.
"My personal life I've really kept pretty private my whole career," Copeland said.
"Definitely with my son, I wouldn't have him probably be on camera for anything, she added. But when it comes to my career and what I'm doing, I'm really open."
The ballerina has yet to disclose many details about her son, but she has revealed that the newly-expanded family will soon be taking an international trip.
"We just got Jackson's passport a couple of days ago," she said. "So we're on our way to Corsica this summer in France."
Copeland said she's "on maternity leave right now," but plans to return to the stage next year.
"...I will be back on the stage in 2023, hopefully, in the fall," the 39-year-old said.
