R. Kelly is requesting that anyone who watched the "Surviving R. Kelly" docuseries be barred from becoming a juror as his second federal trial begins.
On Monday (August 15), R. Kelly and his legal team filed a motion to disqualify jurors who have seen any portion of the series to give him a "fair" shot in trial, per TMZ.
"Any potential juror who has watched any portion of this docuseries must be disqualified for cause on whether they can be fair, too great a risk exists that such a juror would base their verdict on matters not introduced into evidence in the courtroom," legal documents obtained by TMZ read in part.
"Any potential juror who has seen any portion of Surviving R. Kelly is prejudiced where there's no scenario which an individual exposed to the contents of Surviving R. Kelly can be impartial," the documents continue.
Kelly is facing charges of child pornography and obstruction of justice. Jurors for his federal trial in Chicago are scheduled to be selected Monday.
According to Kelly's legal team, jurors exposed to "Surviving R. Kelly" would be "prejudiced" because of episodes in the docuseries that discuss his 2008 prosecution, in which he was acquitted.
His team also claimed the series included allegations that the government won't be featuring in his upcoming trial.
