A North Carolina pastor is facing backlash after he condemned men who have long hair in a sermon that's gone viral.
"The Bible says it's a shame for a man to have long hair," Pastor Jewel Lee said to the Light Church of Clayton congregation during a sermon on Sunday (September 4), per a widely shared TikTok video.
In the video, Lee begins by pushing back against the idea that Jesus had long hair.
“Who saw Jesus with long hair? Who took a picture with Jesus and can say Jesus has long hair?” the pastor says.
Lee then asserts that nature teaches us that a man is "supposed to" be with a woman and that "there's no such thing as a male with a male."
“Nature also teaches us that your hair ain’t supposed to be longer than a woman’s hair,” Lee says.
“How you a man and you tying your hair up in a bun?” the North Carolina pastor adds. “Men don’t walk around with buns on their head.”
Lee continued to condemn men with long hair, calling members of the congregations who didn't agree with his sermon a part of the "problem."
The sermon made its way to Twitter, where users were critical of the pastor's message.
"I feel like there are more important things to preach about," one Twitter user wrote.
"Yep. This is what happens when people take verses of the Bible and remove the context," another user tweeted.
Others pointed to the Biblical story of Samson to refute the pastor's message.
