A 14-year-old teenage girl in Dallas shot and killed an 11-year-old boy while fighting with another child, according to police.
On Sunday (January 15), Dallas police said the 14-year-old retrieved a gun during an argument with another girl at an apartment complex. The shooter pointed the gun in the direction of the girl she was fighting with, but bullets ultimately hit the 11-year-old bystander.
“Everyone involved are juveniles and this is just a horrible incident,” police Sgt. Warren Mitchell said.
The 11-year-old boy died at a local hospital.
According to police, the 14-year-old shooter fled the scene of the incident but was later taken into custody at a nearby apartment complex. She is being held at a juvenile justice center and is expected to face murder charges, police said.
An investigation into the incident remains ongoing. The weapon was recovered at the scene, according to police.
