A Florida dad has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a school worker after his son was banned from riding the bus.
According to an arrest report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Esdra Burges-Cruz, 50, stormed onto a school bus last week and hit an employee in the chest, per the New York Post.
Burges-Cruz allegedly approached the bus, which was loaded with students at the time, and asked the driver if he could get on. The driver said he couldn't board the bus, but Burges-Cruz told him to "shut the f**k up" and got on anyway.
Video of the incident shows the man yelling at the school employee and striking him with an open hand.
“If I hear something else about my son, you’re gonna see what’s gonna happen,” Burges-Cruz said, per the video.
The man initially told police that he boarded the bus with permission and didn't hit anyone. However, a student at Lake Weir Middle School turned in video evidence of the incident, prompting police to arrest Burges-Cruz.
“We believe the arrest speaks loudly and will help the community better understand we expect adults to behave appropriately in the same way we expect our students to behave appropriately,” the Marion County School District said in a statement.
Burges-Cruz faces charges of battery on a public or private education employee, burglary, and disturbing the peace at a school function. He was taken to the Marion County Jail where his bond was set for $17,500.
