A nine-year-old boy in Georgia was murdered while he playing outside.
King Black, 9, went outside on Saturday (June 3) to play with his friends after going swimming with his family but never made it back home, his mom, Joy Black, said, per Fox 5.
"He said, ‘Mom, I am going outside for a little bit.’ And then he was like, ‘I love you." And I said, ‘I love you, too, babe.’ He walked out the door and I got a knock on my door not even five minutes later. King’s been shot," the mother recalled.
According to East Point Police, King was fatally shot inside a home not far from where he is. In the wake of his death, King's family gathered around a memorial near the scene.
"He was outgoing. Anyone body he went around he would just light up their face. He would sing, dance and play with everyone’s kids. Make everybody laugh and smile," his sister, Kurrency Paul, said.
Joy said her son attended Hamilton Holmes Elementary School, helped feed the homeless, and loved his family.
"I just never thought it would be me. You never plan for something like this," she said.
The family has started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the funeral and for organizations that help prevent gun violence.
"The issue with gun violence amongst teens is skyrocketing in the 2020. Community outreach centers are needed to reach these children. A portion of the proceeds from King’s GoFundMe will be going to organizations to help prevent gun violence," King’s uncle said.
No arrests have been made in connection to King's death.
