Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland have joined forces to combat homelessness in Houston.
On Tuesday (June 27), Harris County officials announced that the two were behind the creation of a permanent housing complex in Houston’s midtown area, per the Houston Chronicle.
The Knowles-Rowland House is set to feature 31 units of permanent housing and offer various services including case managers, peer specialists, and service specialists to mental and behavioral health assistance and transportation at the Bread of Life Gymnasium.
The project is expected to cost roughly $8.4 million dollars, $7.2 million of which are being contributed by the American Rescue Plan along with other supporters such as Rice University. Judge Lina Hilda said there are plans for a "bigger launch" event for the project in September during Bey's Rennaisance World Tour stop in Houston.
Rudy Rasmus, executive director of Bread of Life, said he's grateful for how Bey and Rowland are giving back to their hometown.
"This will be our fifth housing development in downtown in Precinct 1 over these last 17 years, and we're just really grateful to continue to help end homelessness in our county," Rasmus told the Chronicle.
