A Wisconsin daycare owner was fatally shot by her boyfriend in front of her child in an apparent murder-suicide, according to police.
29-year-old Cassandra Sims was at home with her then-three-year-old son, Royal, in Racine, Wisconsin on August 11 when she was shot and killed by her boyfriend, Deandre Martin, 30, People reports. Martin murdered Sims before taking his own life.
Royal ran to a neighbor's house for help at the time of the shooting.
“She is going to be missed,” Royal's father, Jerelle Williams, said “He is definitely going to miss her."
Sims' son celebrated his fourth birthday on August 16, his first without his mom.
"I’m going to smile for him today," Williams told Fox6.
Pearlie Hallom, Sim's mother, started a GoFundMe page to offset funeral costs.
“To know her is to love her," the fundraiser says. “Ms.Sims loved each and every one of her daycare children. She helped the community in ways that you couldn’t even imagine."
