Track star Noah Lyles is again trending on social media after Team USA’s stunning loss to Germany in the FIBA basketball tournament.

On Friday (September 8), Germany upset Team USA 113-111 in the FIBA semifinal game in Manila, Philippines.

Social media users were quick to make memes and tweets involving Lyles following the loss. Lyles caught heat last month for shading winners of the NBA finals who refer to themselves as "world champions."

“I watch the NBA finals and they have ‘world champion’ on their head. World champion of what? The United States?” Lyles said after winning his third gold at the World Athletics Championships.

“Don’t get me wrong. I love the US – at times – but that ain’t the world,” Lyles added, noting that track and field has "almost every country out here fighting, thriving, putting on their flag."

Lyles' comment didn't go over well with a number of NBA players and fans. Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Aaron Gordon, and even Drake hit back against the sprinter's take.

After Team USA's FIBA tournament loss, a number of social media users joked that Lyles might've been on the right side of history with his comments.
