Missouri authorities believe they have found the body of a missing woman who said her ex-boyfriend was threatening to kill her.

On Tuesday (October 31), the Independence Police Department said one of their K-9 dogs located a dead body in the woods of Kansas City, Missouri while following leads in the disappearance of Ebony Duncan, per People.

Police noted that the body had identifiers that were consistent with Duncan's, but they are still waiting for official identification from the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office.

“We’re looking at things like height, weight, eye color, hair color, scars, marks, and tattoos,” Independence Police Department PIO Officer Jack Taylor said in a statement.

A missing person's case was opened for Duncan in September after loved ones weren't able to contact her and she didn't show up for work. According to court documents, Duncan “confided in a co-worker” that her former boyfriend, identified as Charles Smith-Howell, was “threatening to kill her.”

Taylor said Smith-Howell, who is currently in federal custody on charges of illegally possessing ammunition, is "still one of our suspects for sure." Detectives are also looking for another person of interest, 42-year-old Keaira Ransberg (Jenkins).

Those with information on her whereabouts can contact Independence Police at the Crimestoppers TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS or on their website https://www.kccrimestoppers.com.
