A $1.5 million bond has been set for an Atlanta man accused of intentionally spreading HIV, Atlanta News First reports.

According to the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office, Cleveland Broadie had unprotected sex with multiple women knowing he was HIV-positive. Broadie is facing three charges of “Reckless Conduct-HIV Infected Person" in connection to incidents involving three alleged victims, one of whom died.

That victim, Denise Broadie, died in April 2022 due to her husband's "reckless conduct," according to prosecutors. Denise went undiagnosed and untreated for HIV because there was no reason to believe that she had it. Her family believed that her cancer had come back after Denise had previously overcome her diagnosis.

It wasn't until days before her death that doctors and family discovered Denise had “full-blown AIDS,” loved ones said.

Rockdale County DA's office sought for Cleveland's bond to be set at $3 million. His defense attorney asked for the bond to be set at $100,000, citing his service in the military and current relationship status.

Cleveland ultimately received a bond of $500k for each charge, which totals to $1.5 million. If he can post bond, Cleveland will be required to wear an ankle monitor and adhere to a 5 p.m.-7 a.m. curfew
