A video of several fans being groped by security as they entered a stadium in the Ivory Coast for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations has sparked outrage.
In the video, a security guard is shown lifting and squeezing multiple fans' breasts over their clothes before they are allowed to enter the stadium for the Africa Cup of Nations, the main international football competition in Africa.
Former BBC journalist Osasu Obayiuwana shared the video online, condemning the nature of the search.
"Some of the responses to this post are unbelievable. The nature of this search is okay, because a woman did this? Really?" Obayiuwana wrote.
The journalist's comments seemingly referred to some social media users suggesting that the security guard was a woman.
"Assuming you're right, is that how to search someone?" he wrote. "How can the Ivorian 'authorities think that this is okay?"
The identity of the security guard remains unclear. In the background of the video, other men appeared to be searched by male guards.
This year's Africa Cup of Nations, which is sanctioned by the Confederation of African Football, is currently in its group stages.
