Journalist Gayle King revealed that a guy she was once dating asked her for thousands of dollars to help pay for his child support.
King made the admission during a podcast appearance on "The Pivot" last month with hosts Ryan Clark, Channing Crowder, and Fred Taylor.
“We had gone out maybe two months, and then he said he really needed to talk to me,” King said of her date. “He wanted to have a private conversation.”
“OK, sure, what is it?” she recalled saying to the man before he asked, “Do you think you could lend me $4,000?”
King said she felt "crushed" when he asked her for the money. The Good Morning America host was also surprised he made the request because he was allegedly making at least six figures at his job.
“When I said, you know, ‘Could I ask what it’s for?’ He said, ‘Yeah.’ It was for a child support issue and to pay a payment on some furniture," King recalled.
King said she ended up giving him the money, and he paid her back within their agreed timeline. However, King admitted that she stopped seeing the man because she couldn't get past him asking her for money.
King added that her best friend, Oprah Winfrey, mocked the man’s request, saying, “God, I would have felt better if he had said $40,000.
