Two more San Jose police officers involved in the racist text scandal where one cop declared "I hate Black people" have been identified.
According to KTVU, Brandon LeTemplier, who is currently on paid administrative leave, and William Hagerty, who was employed with the San Jose Police Department from 2017 to 2020, were involved in the racist text scandal along with now-former officer Mark McNamara.
McNamara resigned amid the discovery of the texts, which referenced the officer's shooting of K’aun Green, a Black college athlete, outside a Mexican restaurant in 2022.
While referring to Green, McNamara used racial slurs and said "I hate Black people" in messages to his coworkers. McNamara lost his certification in November, while LeTemplier and Haggerty are still able to work for other departments.
In one message obtained by KTVU, Haggerty texted McNamara “Why don’t Black people have any sense in their head?” while referring to Green’s defense team.
Angel Alexander, one of Green's lawyers, said it's important for the officers to be held accountable for the messages.
“If people had contact with these officers, they need to know whether that contact was done with any type of underlying racial bias or animus," Alexander said. “If you have hatred for the community that you’re serving, it’s a public safety issue.”
