A 15-year-old teen in Florida was walking to a McDonalds with her friends when she was fatally shot in the street.
Kayla Rincon-Miller, 15, was shot and killed on Sunday (March 17) as she and her two friends were walking from a movie theater to McDonalds in Cape Coral, Florida at around 9:30 p.m., per PEOPLE.
A vehicle pulled up to the group and temporarily blinded the three teenagers with its headlights before at least one person jumped out of the car and tried to rob them. At one point during the incident, a shooter opened fire and fatally shot Rincon-Miller in the chest.
The shooter fled in the vehicle. Rincon-Miller was taken to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
The two other teenagers weren't injured.
Before her death, Rincon-Miller told police that she didn't know who the shooter was. A 16-year-old male was arrested on Tuesday (March 19) as a principal to a murder while engaged in robbery,
“Based on our evidence, we believe this was not a random act of violence," Lisa Greenberg of the Cape Coral Police Department said in a statement.
“We do know there are others involved in this homicide,” she added. “There is still more work to be done. Our detectives’ diligent work around the clock continues today to continue to narrow this investigation.”
According to Greenberg, the vehicle used during the incident was rented by the suspect's mother.
A GoFundMe campaign was started to raise money for medical and funeral expenses.
“Her passing has left our family devastated, mourning the loss of this beautiful soul,” Sophia Rickets wrote on GoFundMe.
