Loretta Devine blasted her Uber driver who criticized musicals while unknowingly driving the critically-acclaimed actress.
In a viral TikTok video, Devine was seated in the back of an Uber when she schooled her driver for talking down on musicals. The driver allegedly had no clue he was speaking with the star of the upcoming musical “The Preacher’s Wife."
“You don’t know ’cause you ain’t see. You done already formed an opinion," Devine told her driver. “I’m not talking about that musical, I am talking about musicals in general,” the driver responded.
A second passenger, who appeared to be recording the interaction, chimed in, “Maybe this one will change your mind.”
The driver said many women have failed to change his opinion on musicals. Devine noted that the driver hadn't been to the specific musical in discussion, so he couldn't form a valid opinion on whether it was good or not.
“You gonna miss a whole lot,” Devine said. “’Cause you done shut down half your brain.”
The driver asked the actress if she had "points" in the musical before she revealed "I'm in it."
“My apologies, you’re an actress,” the man said.
“I’m more than that, baby,” Devine quipped. “I’m a whole lot more than that. You need to ask somebody. You can look me up on the internet.”
The man then appeared to fully realize who Devine was, bringing up some of her past projects.
Social media users were shocked that the man didn't recognize the actress.
"Not knowing THE Loretta Devine right off hand is crazy!" one TikTok user commented.
"How did he not recognize the voice?!? That’s a dream girl right there!!!" another person wrote.
