WNBA star Brittney Griner and her wife, Cherelle, are expecting their first child.
On Saturday (April 13), the Griners took to Instagram to announce the exciting news.
The pair shared a photo of them holding hands alongside an ultrasound of their baby.
"Can’t believe we’re less than three months away from meeting our favorite human being 🤍 #BabyGrinerComingSoon #July2024," the Griners captioned their joint Instagram post.
Brittney and Cherelle first met while attending Baylor University from 2009 to 2013. The two got married in June 2019 nearly one year after Brittney proposed to Cherelle.
In February 2022, Griner was detained in Russia after authorities found her carrying vape canisters with cannabis oil at a Moscow airport. Griner pleaded guilty to drug charges in July 2022 but said she inadvertently packed the cannabis, which she cited was prescribed by a doctor.
She was detained for nearly 10 months before she was released from a Russian prison in December 2022 via a 1-for-1 prisoner exchange involving international arms dealer Viktor Bout.
Since her release, Griner re-signed with the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury, and her Russian detainment is set to be covered in an upcoming documentary and scripted series.
