A white man was arrested after authorities found the remains of a missing Black college student in a Milwaukee park. On Friday (April 5), Maxwell Anderson, 33, was charged with homicide, mutilation of a corpse, and arson in the murder of 19-year-old Sade Robinson, according to CNN.
A criminal complaint obtained by reporters said Robinson told her co-workers she planned a first date with Anderson at a local seafood restaurant where he used to work. She didn't show up for work the next day on April 1 nor returned any calls, her loved ones told law enforcement.
The morning after her date, police found the teenager's 2020 Honda Civic scorched with Robinson's phone and clothes inside. They later discovered a "sawn off" human leg on the beach in Warnimont Park in a Milwaukee suburb and identified the remains as Robinson's using preliminary DNA evidence. On April 6, cops returned to the area where Robinson's car was found and recovered a human foot and "what appeared to be human flesh."
Police also traced Robinson's phone location data back to Anderson's home and to the park where the remains were found. The complaint detailed a slew of evidence tying Anderson to the crime, including surveillance video, witness accounts, phone records, and gasoline containers and blood discovered at Robinson's house.
If convicted on the murder charge alone, Anderson faces up to life in prison.
A GoFundMe page for Robinson's memorial service said the 19-year-old was about to graduate from Milwaukee Area Technical College and pursue a career in criminal justice. She was described as “a loving daughter, a cherished sister, and a dear friend to many.”
“The pain of losing Sade has left a void in the hearts of her family, especially her grieving mother and little sister, along with other relatives, friends, and the entire community who loved and supported her,” the fundraiser's description reads. “As we come together to honor Sade’s memory, we aim to provide her with the dignified farewell she deserves.”
