A Louisiana Republican lawmaker launched an online attack against Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) chief Michael Regan.

Rep. Clay Higgins took to X, formerly Twitter, to attack Regan, the first Black EPA chief, over new chemical plant regulations. The latest chemical emission rules affect roughly 200 facilities, including ones in Higgins' district, which covers Lousiana's largely rural southwest corner.

"This EPA criminal should be arrested the next time he sets foot in Louisiana. Charge his ass with extortion," Higgins tweeted. "LARS 14:66. I’d charge him a count for every Louisiana employee he’s threatening. Send that arrogant prick to Angola for a few decades."

The Republican lawmaker's comments were included alongside a photo of Regan captioned "'Really strong' pollution reduction measure planned for Lousiana, EPA head says."

“Send that arrogant prick to Angola for a few decades,” Higgins wrote, referring to the former plantation turned state prison in Louisiana.

This isn't the first time Higgins has shared controversial statements about Black people online.

In 2020, Higgins took to Facebook to post a photo of an armed Black protestor, captioning it “I’d drop any 10 of you where you stand.” The post was later removed by moderators.
