Tiffany Haddish revealed that she's been sober and celibate for six months.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Haddish opened up about the difficulties she's faced while navigating her career ahead of the release of her new memoir, "I Curse You With Joy."
In fact, “f— fame,” Haddish told the outlet.
Her latest memoir comes after she released her 2017 New York Times bestseller "The Last Black Unicorn."
“I wanted this book to be about something,” Haddish said of "I Curse You With Joy." “I felt like I needed to live a little more life and get a better understanding of where I am now.”
Since the 2017 release of her first book, Haddish has faced several controversies including the resurfacing of a 2014 Funny or Die skit that spurred a child sex abuse lawsuit and DUI arrest in Georgia.
“I hated that I had to go through that, but I had to so I could create better, know better, and do better,” she said.
Haddish was again arrested for DUI in November in Los Angeles.
“My world fell apart.,” Haddish said. “I’ve learned to take tomatoes being thrown at me and turn them into tomato sauce,” she says. “And I’m going to make some spaghetti.”
The Girls Trip star said cutting out alcohol has contributed to her present-day happiness.
“I’m very sober,” Haddish said. “I haven’t had a drink since [the incident]. When I sit back and look at my life, everything that’s crazy that’s happened is because somebody or myself had alcohol in their system.”
Haddish also revealed that she's been celibate for six months.
"They went together," Haddish said of cutting out alcohol and sex around the same time.
“I’m happy," she added. "I’m genuinely happy.”
Haddish's upcoming memoir "I Curse You With Joy" is set to be released on May 7.
