A 17-year-old New York student was stabbed to death by one of her peers while walking home from school.
Emery Mizell, 17, was stabbed multiple times in the chest last week outside of an apartment building where she and her alleged attacker lived in the Bronx. The stabbing was caught on surveillance footage obtained by ABC7. The outlet reported that “with so much blood on the ground, the victim had very little chance and was declared dead at the hospital.”
As many as 10 teens witnessed the incident.
“I’m devastated, I’m numb, I’m in disbelief,” her father, Tony Mizell, told The New York Times. “My daughter was a beautiful soul.”
The alleged attacker, a 15-year-old who also attended Metropolitan Soundview High School, reportedly fled into the apartment building following the incident. She was later taken into custody on charges of murder, manslaughter, and unlawful possession of a weapon.
Police said they uncovered the girls were engaged in a dispute on social media. Emery had reportedly been subjected to harassment and taunts before the stabbing.
“They shouldn’t be fighting because somebody said this about that person. It’s stupid stuff. It’s not worth taking somebody’s life,” Emery’s second cousin, Latayna Mizell, said.
“I’d do anything for the chance to hug you and tell you I love you again. Sleep in peace our sweet angel,” she wrote on Facebook.
