Kelly Rowland is going viral over an incident where she appeared to check security at the Cannes Film Festival.
On Tuesday (May 21), Rowland was photographed in a red gown on the festival's carpet while attending the premiere of the French film Marcello Mio.
The singer was walking up the steps of the red carpet when she appeared to get into a verbal altercation with a member of security who was ushering people into the venue.
Photos of Rowland's heated exchange with security went viral as she appeared to yell and wave her finger at the guard.
A source told Daily Mail that red carpet staff members were "being aggressive" with Kelly, leading to the verbal dispute.
"The people who are assigned to helping stars walk the red carpet were being aggressive and Kelly was trying to ignore it," the source said, per the outlet. "By the time she got to the last woman she had had it because she scolded Kelly and told her to move when she was trying to wave to fans and help the paparazzi get their shot."
"She doesn’t care if she comes across like a diva if she knows that she is advocating for herself. She isn’t fake and wanted to set a clear boundary," the source added.
It's unclear what occurred between Rowland and the security guard without audio.
Other reports stated that the verbal exchange occurred after the staffer stepped on Rowland's dress. Lip reader Jacqui Press told Daily Mail that Rowland said "It's okay" after the security guard apologized for stepping on her gown.
However, the security guard responded with another comment, leading to the dispute, according to Press.
"Don’t talk to me like that," Rowland repeatedly said, per the lip reader.
Social media users also shared their theories of what was said during the exchange. Several believe Rowland said: "Don't talk to me like that. Don't talk to me like that. You're not my momma. I told you not to talk to me like that."
