A shooting at a Juneteenth celebration in Round Rock, Texas left at least two people dead and multiple others injured.

On Saturday (June 15), an altercation broke out between two groups during a Juneteenth festival at Round Rock's Old Settlers Park, per CNN.

"Someone produced a gun and began to fire," Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks said in a statement.

Banks added that "multiple victims were hit" at the crowded Juneteenth event that featured musical performances from several different artists, per the Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department's Facebook page.

Officers at the event responded to the shooting. According to the Austin-Travis County EMS, six people, including two children, were transported to local trauma facilities with "potentially serious injuries."

It's unclear how many people opened fire during the shooting. Suspects were still at large as of Sunday (June 16) morning, police said. An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.

“It breaks your heart for a family that was coming out to enjoy their evening and now their life is forever changed as a result of somebody who could care less about somebody else’s life and that’s so disappointing,” Banks said.
