A North Carolina mother was shot to death while she was asleep at home with her children, WSOC reports.

Latasha Cureton, a 39-year-old mom of six, was killed last week in a drive-by shooting in Gastonia, North Carolina. The shooter allegedly sent bullets into Cureton's home as she was sleeping and her children were watching a movie.

Cureton's mother and children, who witnessed the shooting, initially thought the gunfire was fireworks.

“It was like being like an explosion,” one of Cureton’s daughters said. “We thought it was a loud bang like something fell in the kitchen all of a sudden, it was multiple bangs like fireworks, but then it got louder and louder. We ran and took cover and covered up the babies.”

Cureton's son found his mom in the bedroom after she yelled "I'm hit."

“Then, her son saw her bleeding from her mouth,” Cureton's sister said.

Sydney Weave, one of Cureton's friends, said the mom of six was planning her wedding prior to the fatal shooting.

Gastonia Police are still investigating the incident. A GoFundMe campaign was launched to raise money for the family amid Curenton's death.
