A Missouri man accused of kidnapping and raping a Black woman who he trapped in his basement has been charged with the murder of a second victim, per NBC News.

Timothy M. Haslett Jr. was initially charged with first-degree kidnapping, first-degree rape, second-degree assault, first-degree sodomy, and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child in connection to the abduction and confinement of a 22-year-old Black woman in his home in Excelsior Springs.

The woman escaped Haslett's basement while he was taking his child to school. The 22-year-old was found with a dog collar around her neck, malnourished, and marks around her wrists and ankles.

Months after the incident, authorities discovered the body of a second Black woman, identified as 36-year-old Jaynie Croasdale, in a blue barrel floating in the Missouri River.

Haslett was charged with first-degree murder in connection to Croasdale's death after a photo of the woman was found in his basement.

According to court documents, the 22-year-old victim told authorities that Haslett bragged about killing two other women. Investigators have also learned that Haslet frequently made racist and misogynistic comments online.

Haslett is currently in jail on a bond of $3 million. If he's convicted for Croasdale's murder, Haslett could face life in prison or the death penalty.
