Tennis star Serena Williams has the internet buzzing after she hosted the 2024 ESPYs.
On Thursday (July 12), sports stars were honored for their achievements at the ESPY Awards at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
During her opening monologue, Williams, who hosted this year's event, crip walked to Kendrick Lamar's diss "Not Like Us" while also throwing some of her own shade at Drake.
“If I’ve learned anything this year, it’s that none of us, not a single one of us, not even me, should ever pick a fight with Kendrick Lamar,” Williams said onstage as the song began to play. “He will make your hometown not like you, the next time Drake sits courtside at a Raptors game, they’re gonna Forest Gump him, seats taken."
To open up the show, Williams also joked about WNBA rookie Caitlin Clark's rise to stardom.
"You are the Larry Bird in that you are an amazing player, you have ties to Indiana, and white people are really crazy about you," Williams quipped.
Later in the night, the tennis star was joined onstage by her sister, Venus Williams, and actress Quinta Brunson when she brought up Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker's infamous commencement speech. Butker previously encouraged women graduates to become homemakers who raise children and denounced the LGBTQ community and abortion rights during his speech at Benedictine College in Kansas.
"So, go ahead and enjoy women's sports like you would any other sports, because they are sports," Venus said to the ESPYs crowd.
"Except you, Harrison Butker. We don't need you," Serena chimed in.
"At all. Like, ever," Brunson added.
