Michigan Rep. John James (R) made a callback to a controversial remark made by President Joe Biden during the Republican National Convention.

“If you don’t vote for Donald Trump, you ain’t Black," James declared on Monday (July 15), prompting laughter and applause from the RNC audience.

The comment referenced Biden's controversial remarks during a 2020 interview with Charlamagne Tha God. At the time, Biden said, “If you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t Black.” The president later apologized after his comment drew backlash.

On Monday, James also linked serving in the military to the attempted assassination of former president Donald Trump. Trump was shot at a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania just days before the RNC kicked off in Milwaukee.

"That’s something else me and President Trump have in common: The bad guys shot at us both, but they missed."

Social media users had a lot to say about James' jokes at the convention.

"Rep. John James (R-MI): 'I heard earlier today if you don't vote for Donald Trump, you're ain’t Black.' Said the only black man in the room," one user tweeted.

"They're not laughing with you," another person wrote.
