A Georgia mother shot and killed her 11-year-old daughter before shooting herself in an apparent murder-suicide.

On Sunday (August 11), two people were found dead with gunshot wounds at an apartment complex outside Pine Lake, Georgia, per Fox 5.

Authorities found the bodies and identified an 11-year-old girl as Makenzie B. The second body, a 31-year-old woman, was identified as her mother, Qiana Rainley.

It's unclear what led to the shooting. According to police, Rainley shot her daughter before killing herself.

The DeKalb County Police Department said the 11-year-old girl had just graduated from their summer swim program.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Makenzie B., a recent graduate of our Summer Survival Swim Program, who was taken away from us way too soon,” the department wrote on social media. “Once DKPD, always DKPD.”
