Simone Biles' birth mother is speaking out after the gymnast's historic run at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
In an interview with the Daily Mail, Biles' biological mother, Shanon, said Tuesday (August 13) that she hopes the Olympian will forgive her for her past.
Biles and her three siblings were placed in foster care as their birth mother struggled with substance abuse and drug addiction. The gymnast's maternal grandfather, Ronald, and his wife, Nellie Cayetano Biles, took care of the children and later adopted them.
Shanon Biles told Daily Mail that she's "clean and sober" now and works at a grocery store in Ohio.
"I want her to reach out to me. She’s 27 now. She’s married. I would have liked to have been a part of that, but I just have to wait for her," she said. "You can’t push anybody. It hasn’t happened yet, but I have patience. I’m waiting on her."
"I would like to make amends with Simone personally," Shanon added, noting that she would like to "move forward" with her daughter.
Shanon's comments come after Biles took home three gold medals and a silver medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics. It's unclear whether the star gymnast is interested in making amends with her biological mother.
