A New York City woman was allegedly beaten to death with a broom by her nephew, PEOPLE reports.
According to police, the fatal attack on 55-year-old Juanita Dallas unfolded on Tuesday (August 20). Police said officers responded to a report about an assault in progress at Dallas' home in Queens.
The assault stemmed from a verbal dispute between Dallas and Alexander Fleming, 29, according to police. Fleming allegedly hit Dallas in the head with a broom. Dallas was taken to a local hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Later that day, Fleming was arrested on charges of murder, assault with intent to cause physical injury with a weapon, and criminal possession of a weapon. The suspect is the nephew of Dallas, according to local reports.
The motive behind the attack remains unclear. An investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
According to social media, Dallas is a Queens native and attended Hillcrest High School.
