A shooting at a Georgia high school has left four people killed and nine others injured.

According to Fox 5, authorities responded to reports of an active shooter at Apalachee High School in Winder, Barrow County on Wednesday (September 4) at 10:30 a.m. The school was cleared roughly an hour later, and students were released to their families. Neighboring Winder-Barrow High School was also put on lockdown as a precautionary measure but no threat was found.

White House officials said President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the shooting. The Harris campaign said the Democratic nominee will address the fatal incident upon arrival at her stop in New Hampshire.

In the wake of the shooting, Governor Brian Kemp released a statement on X, formerly Twitter.

"I have directed all available state resources to respond to the incident at Apalachee High School and urge all Georgians to join my family in praying for the safety of those in our classrooms, both in Barrow County and across the state," Kemp tweeted. "We will continue to work with local, state, and federal partners as we gather information and further respond to this situation."

According to reports, roughly 1,900 students are enrolled at Apalachee High School. The school is located about 40 miles from Atlanta.
