A New York man has been arrested after the body of a missing woman was found stuffed inside a suitcase, PEOPLE reports.

31-year-old Seikeya Jones was found dead earlier this month inside luggage near an apartment building in Huntington, the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department said. The discovery came after police received a report about suspicious activity on Nassau Road. Officers found Jones' body behind the apartment.

Jones was last seen near Fifth Avenue in Huntington Station and reported missing on August 16. Footage from residents of the apartment building where Jones was found reportedly showed the woman walking into the complex with an unidentified man.

On Friday (September 6), 41-year-old Ronald Schroeder was arrested on a charge of concealing a corpse in connection with the remains found. Schroeder has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Authorities are still investigating the incident and trying to determine how Jones died.

Jones’ family said she struggled with mental illness and was homeless at the time of her death.

"I'm here today to say that my sister Seikeya Jones has a family that was standing beside her," Jones' sister, Shasia Correnthi, said, noting that her mental illness "does not give anybody the right to put their hands on my sister and put her in a suitcase, and stuff her inside these bushes like she was nothing."
