A cause of death for Good Times star John Amos has been revealed.

According to a death certificate obtained by TMZ, Amos died of congestive heart failure on August 21 at Inglewood Hospital in L.A. County.

News of Amos' cause of death comes after his son, K.C., announced in a statement shared on Tuesday (October 1) that the actor had died at 84 over a month ago.

Amos' daughter, Shannon, revealed on Instagram that she learned of her father's "heartbreaking" death "through the media."

"I am without words... Our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., transitioned on August 21," Shannon wrote Tuesday. "We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you."

Amos' death certificate lists K.C. as the "informant," meaning he informed the county of his father's death. According to the certificate, Amos was cremated on August 30, nine days after his death. The certificate also cites K.C.'s house as the place of disposition, indicating that Amos' ashes are in his possession.

Fans have speculated that there was tension between K.C. and Shannon after she accused her brother of elder abuse. K.C. and Amos denied the allegation and the claim was dismissed by authorities.

In her statement on social media, Shannon said she has "some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free."
