John Amos' daughter, Shannon, has revealed that she learned about her father's death at the same time as the public.

On Tuesday (October 2), Shannon shared a video on Instagram of her and her father after news broke that the Good Times actor died at 84 on August 21.

Shannon said she was "devastated and left with many questions" after learning of Amos' August death "through the media."

"I am without words... Our family has received the heartbreaking news that my Dad, John Allen Amos, Jr., transitioned on August 21," Shannon captioned her Instagram video on Tuesday. "We are devastated and left with many questions about how this happened 45 days ago, learning about it through the media like so many of you."

Shannon said she was "struggling" to honor and celebrate the actor's life while navigating "the wave of emotions and uncertainties surrounding his passing."

"Still, there is some semblance of peace in knowing my father is finally free," she added.

News of Amos' death came Tuesday after his son, K.C., shared a statement with the press. Shannon has previously accused her K.C. of elder abuse as he cared for their father. The father and son denied Shannon's allegation.

Multiple agencies launched an investigation into the matter, but the case was dropped due to a lack of evidence. K.C. was arrested in July 2023 for allegedly making threats against Shannon that made her fear for her life.

The current status of the siblings' relationship remains unclear.
