A Missouri mother found out that her oldest son was fatally shot shortly after she delivered her newborn child, per PEOPLE.
Felicia Kennell said she was at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis on September 1 when she learned about the shooting death of her 18-year-old son, Martinez Ursery. Kennell was still in the hospital after giving birth to her son prematurely on August 28.
Usery's cousin, Christopher J. Webb, was charged with involuntary manslaughter and failure to report the shooting in connection to the fatal shooting.
According to authorities, Webb shot Ursey in the head with a rifle after finding out the weapon was loaded.
“Martinez was in the comfort of his home, where he thought he was safe," when he was killed, a GoFundMe campaign raising money for Ursey's funeral expenses reads.
“This is a difficult time for [Kennell] because not only is she having to bury her son, she is also dealing with not being able to stay in her home because of this tragedy,” the fundraiser adds.
It's unclear what led to the shooting or how the rifle was obtained.
Webb is currently being held on a cash-only bond of $225,000. He is due in court on Wednesday (October 8) for a bond hearing.
