A Houston mother is facing charges after her three children were found abandoned and living with their eight-year-old brother's dead body, PEOPLE reports.
Gloria Williams pleaded guilty earlier this month to two charges of injury to a child in connection to the murder of her eight-year-old son Kendrick Lee in March 2021.
The guilty plea comes after Williams' boyfriend, Brian Coulter, in April 2024 was sentenced to life in prison for beating the boy to death.
According to Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, Willaims' three children, ages 7, 9, and 15, were abandoned in the family's apartment for several months with skeletal remains.
"The apartment was in a horrible condition. We saw soiled carpet, no furniture at all. No bedding, no blankets that we could see. We saw roaches and flies and a very bad condition for anyone to live in," Gonzalez previously said.
Williams' oldest son called police to report his brother "had been dead for a year and his body was in the room next to his," the sheriff said.
According to authorities, Williams and Coulter moved out of the apartment in March 2021, which was seven months before the oldest son made the report to the police.
Williams allegedly attempted to conceal her son's death by sending groceries to the apartment and continuing to pay rent.
Authorities found the living children in the apartment were "malnourished and showed signs of physical injury,” Gonzalez said.
Lt. Dennis Wilford previously described Coulter as "manipulative," but said Williams should also face charges in her son's death.
"I would say they are both an abuser," Wilford told reporters. "He's an abuser physically, and she's an abuser by omission."
Williams is set to be sentenced on November 11.
