Vice President Kamala Harris is considering using her alma mater, Howard University, as her election night headquarters, NBC News reports.

Sources familiar with the planning told NBC News that Harris plans to spend election night in Washington and her campaign is particularly interested in using Howard as a possible venue for her to speak from.

According to the sources, the Harris campaign is also preparing for an election "week" if the results aren't conclusive by the end of the night. That plan would include Harris delivering several different speeches from various venues.

“Bottom line: We have to be ready for anything,” a source told NBC News.

The preparation comes after the drawn-out counting process of the 2020 presidential election and amid a tight race between Harris and former President Donald Trump.

Howard University is the top contender for where Harris would spend election night, but other locations, including the D.C. convention center, are being scouted for the campaign's headquarters, according to sources.

Sources said the Harris campaign is also preparing a strategy to combat the possibility of Trump declaring victory before the results are in, as he did in 2020. The campaign is reportedly bracing for possible legal challenges, including Trump potentially seeking to overturn the results of the election through the courts.

According to the sources, Harris will likely avoid publicly speaking about these scenarios because the campaign doesn't want voters to believe that their ballots could be discounted by legal challenges.

“People need to go out and vote. You don’t want people thinking about legal challenges,” a Harris aide said.
