The family of Shanquella Robinson, a 25-year-old North Carolina woman who was found dead at a resort in Mexico, has filed a lawsuit against the six "friends" she traveled with, per the New York Post.

Robinson died on October 29, 2022 while on a group vacation to a resort in Cabo, Mexico. The group, referred to as the "Cabo Six" in the family's lawsuit, initially claimed that Robinson died of alcohol poisoning, but an autopsy report determined the 25-year-old suffered trauma to her neck and spine.

Following her death, video circulated of Robinson being beaten by another woman in a hotel room while at least two other people in the room watched and recorded the attack. The woman who allegedly beat Robinson was one of six travel companions on the trip.

Federal investigators declined to bring criminal charges in Robinson's case, citing a lack of evidence to support a federal prosecution. Along with the "Cabo Six," Robinson's family said they're suing the FBI for failing to make any arrests two years after her death.

“We need justice for Shanquella Robinson,” Robinson's mother, Sallamondra, said in a statement. “It’s been two years and there’s no reason that no one has been arrested yet. I need justice for my child.”

According to the lawsuit, the Cabo Six failed to tell doctors about the assault and refused requests to take Robinson to the hospital.

“This lawsuit is not just about seeking justice for Shanquella Robinson; it’s about holding accountable those who were entrusted with the duty to investigate, act, and protect the interests of US citizens abroad,” attorney Sue-Ann Robinson said in a statement. “The heartbreaking details of Shanquella’s death and the subsequent mishandling by federal authorities only add to the family’s grief, and they deserve both full transparency and justice.”

The lawsuit further claims that Robinson's mother has faced anxiety, depression and other mental distress since her daughter's death. It seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
