An Alabama man has been arrested after a shooting at Tuskegee University left one person dead and sixteen others injured.
In the early hours of Sunday (November 10) morning, gunfire erupted during on-campus celebrations for Tuskegee University's 100th homecoming, per NPR.
Jaquez Myrick, 25, was found leaving the scene of the shooting carrying a handgun with a machine gun conversion device, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said in a statement. Myrick was arrested and charged with possession of a machine gun.
The shooting left an 18-year-old victim dead. 12 others were hit by gunfire and taken to local hospitals for treatment. Four others sustained non-gun-related injuries from the incident.
Tuskegee University said the person who died was a "non-university individual," but some of the injured victims were students at the HBCU.
Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Bureau of Investigations is continuing to investigate the shooting. All university classes were canceled on Monday amid investigations of the scene. University grief counselors were also made available to students on Monday.
